Last Week at the Beach

I went to the beach last week with my friends. Parking the car took a long time because the beach was very crowded. Once we got a parking spot we walked on the boardwalk. The sun was very hot. The sand was very hot to walk on. I brought a towel and a chair to sit on and a book to read. When we got too hot we went for a swim. I like going to the ocean because there are big waves and it is fun to dive under the waves when swimming. There was a lifeguard at the beach so we didn't have to worry about the riptide. Many surfers were on their surfboards in the water, waiting to ride a wave. After we swam we went beach combing. We found lots of shells and rocks. Some people were fishing and caught small fish. We also saw a few crabs and seagulls at the beach. Then we played beach volleyball. We played for so long we forgot to put on sunscreen. We all went home with a sunburn

At the Airport

I really enjoy  traveling, but going on an airplane can be scary!  The thing I like least about traveling is the airport. At the airport you must first check in and get your boarding pass.  If you have bags, they must be checked onto the correct flight. Then you walk through security to get to the gate that your plane will be leaving from.  Airport security is an important thing in all countries, but it takes time. You must show your boarding pass and a passport or ID to a security officer. You need a passport if you are on an international flight to another country. The security uses a conveyor belt to view your personal bags and looks at them using special cameras and videos.  The airport security officers will ask you to walk through a metal detector to be sure that you do not have any items that can harm yourself or others on the flight.  Once you get to your gate you must wait until they call your row number to board the flight. Some flights take longer than others, but you are on your way to a great vacation!

Vocabulary Review:
1. Airport: A station where airplanes land and take-off.

 2. Boarding Pass: A ticket used to show a airplane seat.

 3. Conveyor belt: A machine that moves objects from spot to another.

 4.  Metal detector: A security machine that shows concealed metal objects either on a person on in luggage.
